Definition

The organisations the index can answer for: one company, counted once, for every organisation with at least one crawled root domain.

Rule

A root domain reaches a company through the parent organisation of that domain, matched on the domain and the country. A host reaches a company only through its root, so a subdomain never resolves to a company of its own.

Denominator

The whole crawled universe, not a sample: 169,380,989 root domains, of which 32.2% resolve to at least one organisation.

Caveat

Joining on the host instead of the root adds 1,495 roots, which is why the root join is the one the pages use. The count carries the landing date of the index load it was made on and moves with the next one.
